Rangpur division records 6.42pc Covid positivity rate

Rangpur division recorded 6.42 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 24 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday after testing 374 new samples at two laboratories in the division. 

"The overall Covid-19 situation is improving constantly in the division in the last five weeks," said Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui. 

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 6.01 percent on Tuesday, 5.50 percent on Monday, 5.43 percent on Sunday, 8.59 percent on Saturday, 8.18 percent on Friday and 10.37 percent on Thursday last in the division. Among the 24 new patients, 10 were reported positive after diagnosing 186 new samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city at the highest ever daily positivity rate of 5.38 percent on Wednesday 

"The 10 new Covid-19 infected patients include seven from Rangpur, one from Kurigram and two from Panchagarh districts," Principal of RpMC Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS. On the other hand, 14 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 7.45 percent on Wednesday. 

"The 14 new Covid-19 infected patients include 12 from Dinajpur and two from Thakurgaon districts," Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain said. 

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of Covid-19 patients rose to 54,326 as 24 new positive cases were reported on Wednesday from across the division. 

"The district-wise break up of total 54,326 patients include 12,284 of Rangpur, 3,674 of Panchagarh, 4,360 of Nilphamari, 2,717 of Lalmonirhat, 4,597 of Kurigram, 7,401 of Thakurgaon, 14,473 of Dinajpur and 4,820 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.
