Rangpur 3 by-polls on October 5

The Election Commission on Sunday declared schedule for the Rangpur 3 by-polls fixing the elections date on October 5. The parliamentary constituency fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad. EC additional secretary Mokhlesur Rahman announced the polls schedule at a press conference at EC media centre.

According to the schedule, the last date of filing nomination paper is September 9 and it will be scrutinised on September 11. The last date of withdrawing nomination paper is September 16 and after the formalities, the EC’s returning officer will declare valid candidates for the polls. Mokhlesur Rahman said that the commission decided to hold the election using the Electronic Voting Machines and the balloting would be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

On July 14, former military dictator and Jatiya Party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad died at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital. He was 89. Ershad was admitted to the CMH on June 22.
