RAKUB to disburse Tk 2,300cr agri-loan in NW region

Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) will disburse Taka 2,300 crore agri-loans in the country’s northwest (NW) region during the current 2019-20 fiscal year to facilitate increasing crop production and enhance rural economy.

The specialised commercial bank will disburse the loans through its 381 branches in all 16 districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, Public Relation Officer of the bank Md Jamil told BSS on Tuesday.

Target has also been set to recover loans of Taka 2,300 crore including classified loans worth Taka 778.23 crore and raise deposit collection to Taka 1,000 crore, he said.

All the zonal and branch managers were asked to infuse more dynamism into its all business activities including loan disbursement, recovery especially the classified loan and deposit collection for benefits of both the bank and clients, he said. The official said the bank disbursed loan of Tk 2,358.98 crore, recovered Taka 2,528.79 crore including classified loans worth Taka 346.64 crore in 2018-19 fiscal while it had also deposit money worth Taka 297.94 crore.

The bank attained highest profit of Taka 42.45 crore for the first time in the last financial year, up by Taka 2.07 crore than that of the previous year, he said. As the largest development partner in agriculture as well as agro-based industry sector of the northwest Bangladesh, currently, the bank has adopted the effective work plan which is being implemented at the grassroots level to make the credit programs easier. “We have adopted special credit programme for encouraging the people for setting up solar power, biogas and waste management plants for generating eco-friendly and alternative power to face the power supply deficit,” said Nurul Islam, Managing Director of RAKUB, adding “credit is being extended to the sector on a priority basis.” 

He said the bank enhanced its lending activities in multipurpose potential fields for boosting agricultural production, intensifying food security and flourishing poultry and dairy sectors.
