Rajshahi silk industries free from child labour

All the functioning silk industries andfactories in Rajshahi industrial estate of Bangladesh Small and CottageIndustries Corporation (BSCIC) are freed from any child labour at present, reports BSS.

The positive scenario has been revealed by members of a nationalmonitoring core committee of the Ministry of Labour and Employment aftervisiting some of the silk factories here on Monday.

The committee members went round the silk manufacturing ventures andfactories like Lucky Weaving Silk Traders, Usha Silk, Sapura Silk, AdhunikSilk Mills, Nadim Silk Industries, Khaza Ahmed Silk Industries and RajshahiSilk Fashion.

After visiting the industries, Deputy Secretary of the ministry MahbubaBilkish told journalists that not a single child works in the factories. “Wehave visited the business establishments to see whether any children work ornot here,” she said, adding that the team members are happy over thesituation.

Deputy Secretary Faruque Ahmed, Senior Assistant Secretary Meer MosharrafHossain and Commerce Ministry Officer Shamima Akter were the other threemembers of the team.

Deputy Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories andEstablishments Mahfuzur Rahman, Divisional Director of the Department ofLabour and Manpower Enamul Haque, President of Bangladesh Silk IndustriesOwners Association Liakat Ali and Labour Insp.
