Rajshahi Covid situation gets worse, strict lockdown proposed

Coronavirus infection is increasing alarmingly in Rajshahi since after the observance of the Eid-ul-fitre.  The rate of infection after testing samples of Coronavirus is nearly 50 percent in Rajshahi district. The pressure of patients with Coronavirus infection and its symptoms is mounting continuously so the rate of death is.

Despite such a horrifying situation, awareness among the people of Rajshahi to follow health rules has not been increased at all. It is seen, even at the hospital areas, people were moving without following any health rules. Visitors, patients and even the hospital staff were seen to move through the hospital compound without wearing masks. According to sources, due to an abnormal increase in Coronavirus infection, Rajshahi district has been brought under special rules and restrictions from Thursday evening ( June-3). According to the new rules, the district administration has imposed a ban on operation of all services excepting the emergency services and carrying of mangoes from 7-00 PM (evening) to 8-00 AM ( morning). Law enforcement agency members were also seen to actively enforce the rule from the evening to the morning. But, the day time situation of Coronavirus infection in Rajshahi city and the surrounding areas is stated to be horrendous. Like other days, people continued to crowd the roads, markets, offices and road crossings from Sunday morning. The jam of vehicles, mainly auto rickshaws, was noticed at the Shaheb Bazaar areas. All city shops are open. But, many people were not caring to follow any health rules. More than 25 percent of people were seen to move without wearing any masks.

Around 12-00 noon, an employee of Rajshahi City Corporation was seen to announce to become aware of the Coronavirus and to wear masks In front of RDA Market of Shaheb Bazar. But, the person who was making the announcement was seen not to wear a mask properly. Most of the salesmen at the Garments  shop at RDA market were seen without any masks though most of the customers there seemed to wear masks. 

Only a few salesmen and shop owners at the Greengrocers market at Masterpara were seen to wear masks. While asked about not wearing masks, most of them answered that due to summer heat they have kept the masks removed. Greengrocer trader Abdus Sattar and his customer did not wear masks. Abdus Sattar said while carrying goods on vans in the morning, the mask was removed and fell from 

   over his mouth somewhere. Some customers without masks informed that they forgot to wear masks.

Inside Rajshahi Medical College Hospital a worker was seen to pull the trolley of a patient. Both the trolley puller and the patient have no masks on their faces. Many attendants of the patients were also seen to move without wearing masks or hanging their masks on their chins.

Meanwhile, with the alarming increase of the Coronavirus infection and detection of nearly 50 percent of Corona positives cases after testing samples of the patients, leaders of 14- party alliance have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil demanding to impose a ‘strict lockdown’ in Rajshahi on Saturday ( June-5) afternoon. The leaders also mentioned in the memorandum to ensure ‘food security’ for the low income group of people before imposing the strict lockdown.  

The memorandum further mentioned that the Coronavirus situation has been deteriorated badly in Rajshahi during last one month and the new records of death and infection are continuing to grow and to check this increasing infection by the Coronavirus and the death, there is no alternative but to impose a strict lockdown throughout Rajshahi district. Among others General Secretary  of Rajshahi City Awami League Doublew Sarker, General Secretary of Rajshahi City Workers Party Debashish Pramanik Debu, President of city unit of JSD Abdullah Al Masud Shibley, General Secretary of JSD city unit Shafiqul Islam, Amirul Haque Babu,  Abdul Matin, Monir Uddin Panna and Sitanath Bonik were present during placing of the memorandum to the Deputy Commissoner.

  Meanwhile, during the last 24-hour six more patients by being attacked with Coronavirus and the symptom of Coronavirus at the Corona wards of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Of the dead, three are from Chapainawabganj and one each from Rajshahi, Natore and Chuadanga.

Dr. Saiful Ferdous, Deputy Director of RMCH informed that of the dead two tested Corona positive while others died with symptoms of Corona.

With the deaths, a total of 53 patients by being attacked with Coronavirus or symptoms of Corona died during the last six days ( June-1 morning to June-6 morning) . Of them 35 died with Corona positive.

Dr. Saiful further mentioned both the number of infections with Corona and the number of Coronavirus patients has increased at the hospital. Till Sunday morning at 6-00, a total of 235 patients were taking treatment at the Corona units of RMCH. 30 patients have been admitted with Coronavirus at the hospital during last 24 hours of them 18 belonged to Rajshahi, eight belonged to Chapainawabganj, three belonged to Naogaon and one of Natore.

He added after testing samples of 542 patients in two PCR labs in Rajshahi, Corona positive was detected among 292 patients on Saturday. Of those 184 were detected positive among 366 samples of Rajshahi and 108 were detected positive by testing samples of 176 patients from Chapainawabganj district.

 Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi Quiyum Talukder said there is no way to escape Coronavirus without wearing masks and following health rules. Some are even being attacked with Coronavirus even after vaccinating two dosages. He warned that a further strict lockdown will be imposed if people don't follow the health rules and wear masks.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of RMP Golam Ruhul Quddus said, RMP was implementing special restrictions from 7-00 pm to 8-00 Am. No one is allowed to stay outside the home during this period. RMP was also making the people alert through miking during the day time, he added.
