Rajab murder: 3 to walk gallows, 7 get life term

A Tribunal on Thursday handed death to three people and life terms in prision to seven people in Rajab murder case. Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 handed down the sentence. The death row convicts are: Rahim alias Arif, Jiku and Abu Bakkar Siddique. They all are fugitives. The life timers are: Monti, Milan alias Chapa Milan, Akash alias Rasel, Farhad Hossain alias Farhad, Sajib Ahmed Khan, Shahid Chan Khadem and Mohammad Ali Hawlader Babu.

The tribunal also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default to suffer one more year in jail. It ordered to send Convict Mohammad Ali Hawlader to jail while issuing warrants against other fugitive convicts. Accused Raj Kumar, Rubel, Shukkur Ali were acquitted of the case as the charges brought against them were not proved.

Stenographer of the Tribunal Hasan confirmed the matter. On July 24, 2011, the accused stabbed Rajab at Nababpur following previous enmity. Rajab was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries. Rajab’s brother Jumman filed a case with Kotwali Police Station in this regard.
