The people of Jhenaidah were deprived off the natural rainfall for last six and a half month when the climate went disfavour of the people. The croplands became waterless and most of tube wells went inoperative due to descend of water level.

The people of Jhenaidah, especially day labourers and common people were leading a miserable life for want of a drop of rainfall. The religious people, both from Muslim and Hindu community were praying in the crop fields under the sun seeking rainfall. Just then the people of the district witnessed the rainfall for an hour starting from 12 noon on Sunday.

This rainfall helped to water the crop fields and raised the water level of the tube wells in the District.

Asgar Ali, a rickshaw van puller in Jhenaidah town said he was feeling comfortable when it rained on Sunday noon. Discomfort caused due to heat wave were almost gone for a while when it rained, he added.

Garments item seller Mohammad Ali said he was feeling easy when the rain swept over the town on Sunday noon. Both the buyers and sellers on roadside stalls were feeling relieved after the rainfall.

Additional Deputy Director (ADD) of Jhenaidah Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said they had recorded three millimeter of rainfall on Sunday noon. It had brought peace and comfort among the people of the district. Although it was not optimum, it will slightly help the standing jute on the fields and to prepare seed beds of the Aus paddy in the district.
