At the beginning of the Bengali month of ‘Poush’, a cold wave was experienced for a short period of time. The chill of the on-going winter season is likely to continue due to this, according to meteorological reports.
However, there is a possibility of rain in some districts of the country around the end of the month (December 28-29). If there is rain, there is also a chance of another cold wave and an increase in the cold will increase, the meteorological reports suggest.
Saturday marked the 10th day of the month of Poush. Except for Tentulia in Panchagarh, the temperature has not dropped below 10 degrees Celsius. On Saturday morning, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded 8.7 degrees Celsius in Tentulia while the minimum temperature in Dhaka was 15.4 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam told Bangladesh Post that the weather across the country may remain dry with temporarily cloudy until Sunday. There may be moderate to heavy fog all over the country.
The night and day temperatures across the country may remain almost unchanged during this time and the weather may remain similar for the next two days, he added.
"However, there is a possibility of light rain from December 28 to 29. It may rain in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. The temperature will rise following the railfall,” he said.
He further said that if it rains a lot, a cold wave may sweep in some areas of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions. If there is no rain during this time, the temperature could rise rather than fall.
January is usually the coldest month in the country. The current condition of weather is likely to continue till January 2 or 3 and then the temperature will start to decrease, he added.
According to the meteorological department, the extension of the sub-continental high pressure zone is located in West Bengal and adjoining areas. A seasonal light pressure is prevailing in South Bay of Bengal.
