The rain that started on Friday dawn has caused an estimated loss of around Tk 3 crore to the brick kiln owners of Chatmohar in Pabna district as they claimed. The brick kiln owners of this area have lost a huge amount of raw bricks as these raw bricks just melted due to the rain.

It is learned that there are nine brick kilns in Haripur, Gunaigachha, Bilchalan, Mulgram and Dibigram Unions of Chatmohar. Brick production was in full swing in these brick kilns. When it started raining on Friday morning, every brick kiln owner suffered more or less damage. Some kiln owners have tried to save some raw bricks by covering them with polythene. They could not remove the broken bricks as it rained intermittently till noon on Friday. A scene that catches the eye when they went to the brick kiln on the spot on 4th February.

Anwarul Islam, a partner of the owner of ART brick kiln located in Dhulauri area of Chatmohar, said that there are 9 brick kilns operating in different areas of Chatmohar. At least four lakh raw bricks were destroyed in their brick kiln in the rains on Friday. If these bricks could be burned, they could be sold for at least 34 lakh Tk. Although it is possible to recycle the soil, the workers have to pay for the construction of these bricks and also for the removal. Abdul Khaleq, a partner of the CTV brand brick kiln owner, said they have two brick kilns in Ramchandrapur and Dhulauri areas of Chatmohar. At least 6 lakh raw bricks were destroyed in their two brick kilns in the rain. If the bricks could be crushed, it could be sold for around 6 lakh rupees.

Talking to other brick kiln owners, it is learned that they lost a lot due to unseasonal rains in the middle of the season. Making new bricks is off. The workers will also be unemployed for a few days. Rising coal prices, adverse weather and rainfall will make it difficult for many brick kiln owners to cope with the huge economic losses they face.
