Rain cripples capital

Dhaka city has experienced the highest rainfall on Tuesday in this season. An 85 mm of rain was recorded in three hours from 6 am to 9 am. The rainfall has caused severe water logging in many areas of the capital.

The city dwellers faced inconveniences and suffered due to the water logging. Severe traffic jams were created on the roads of Dhaka.

The day labourers, rickshaw pullers, hawkers and office goers had to wait for hours as there was a crisis of vehicles on the roads. The poor people were seen running to and fro in search of shelter. Many people were seen standing on roads in knee-deep water.

Mymensingh has seen 48 mm, Netrokona 36 mm and Tangail 33 mm of rainfall. Some 15 more districts have experienced light to moderate rain on Tuesday.

The highest rainfall of 103 mm has been recorded in Chattogram in the last 24 hours. Netrokona had 96 mm.

Many roads in Bashundhara, Malibagh, Banani, Dhanmondi, Panthapath, Mirpur, Green Road, Airport Road and other areas have been submerged due to the heavy rainfall. 

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours forecast from 9am Tuesday, the meteorological office has forecast light to moderate rain with thundershowers in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and some parts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions. There may also be moderate to heavy rainfall in some other parts of the country.

Day and night temperatures across the country may remain almost unchanged.
