When the prolonged severe drought and hot spell was prevailing for last couple of weeks, about 40 milimetre rainfall had brought relief for the farmers as well as common people of the district as the land in each and every area regained normalcy having moisture in the soil. It will ensure proper germination of the crops in the soils. The department of agricultural extension (DAE) had recorded about 40 milimetres of the rainfall in last three days. Said the DAE officials in Jhenaidah.
Farmer Abdur Rashid, 62, was caring his gourd (potol) plot at Raghunandanpur field in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah on Friday noon said, the farmers were at a loss when they were witnessing severe drought for want of rainfall for a long. Huge smaller cracks had developed on the crop fields and the standing crops like, jute, sesame, vegetables etc. started drying up. But the nature had blessed then officering huge rainfall since last three` days.
Another farmers Abdul Latif expressed the same opinion saying “we had offered Esteskar Salat (special prayer seeking rain) to the Almighty in mosque and crop fields. Now I can sow seeds for all my crops in a good environment”. He was very happy when he witnesses satisfactory rainwater in last three days.
Deputy Director (DD) of the DAE in Khamarbari of Jhenaidah Sasti Charan Roy when contacted said they had recorded about 40 milimerte of the rainfall between May 7 and 9 last. It has blessed the farmers as they will start cultivation of their desired crops on the fields, Roy said.
