The capital Dhaka and some other parts of the country witnessed light to moderate rainfall also on Thursday that disrupted normal public life and their daily routine activities.

The rainfall continued in various parts of the country for the second day in a row, causing significant disruption the life of low-income people.

The rain brought relief from the heat but made life harder for the working-class people as well as people of all walks of life in Dhaka city. Daily wage earners, like rickshaw pullers, found it difficult to do their jobs in such weather.

Likewise, office-goers and students also faced challenges during their commute in the morning and the afternoon.

The rain caused a shortage of public transportation, while waterlogged streets in narrow alleys worsened traffic congestion. Office and school goers were seen facing suffering due to lack of transportation and slow traffic during the rain.

The incessant rainfall inundated roads and lanes in different areas in the city, including Malibagh, Mouchak, Kakrail and New Market.

The rains, triggered by low pressure area over the West-central Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal, started on Wednesday night and continued till Thursday evening.

The Met office recorded 44 mm rainfall in the 24 hours from 6:00 am on Wednesday to 6:00 am on Thursday while 43 mm of rainfall was recorded in six hours from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, said meteorologist AKM Nzmul Haque.

However, there is a possibility of decrease in rainfall from Friday. Meteorologist Abdur Rahman said that rainfall might significantly decrease by Friday.

According to the Met office regular bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershower accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through India’s Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal to Assam across Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends upto North Bay.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay.

The low pressure area over West-central and  adjoining Northwest Bay moved west-northwestwards has become unimportant and merged with the monsoon axis, it says.
