Railway minister inaugurates dev work of stations in west zone

Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated various station modernization works in the western region of the country on Thursday.

To ensure comfortable travel of passengers, 55 stations across the country will be modernized, platform sheds will be constructed, access control controls and station platforms will be elevated on the occasion of Mujib Year.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the modernization work, the Railway Minister said the present government has given more importance to railways. Many new projects have been undertaken. Single lines across the country will be doubled in phases.

Referring to several ongoing development projects in the railways, the minister added new railway line from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar, Khulna to Mongla, separate Bangabandhu railway bridge over Jamuna river are being constructed.

Moreover, a new railway line will be constructed from Bogra to Sirajganj. This will reduce the travel time and cost of people in the north. Construction of double line from Joydebpur to Ishwardi has been undertaken. If this is implemented, it will be possible to run more trains in the region, the minister said.

The Railway Minister further said, “The present government is working towards building a hunger-free, poverty-free, self-reliant nation of Bangabandhu's dream. We are working towards building the railways as a modern advanced communication system."

The stations are being modernized to improve the quality of passenger service. The station's waiting room, toilet management and overall development is being done. 

The modernization works of the stations which the Minister is inaugurating this day are: Tangail, Shaheed Mansur Ali, Jamtail, Ullapara, Baral Bridge, Chatmohar, Natore, Santahar, Joypurhat, Birampur, Parbatipur, Syedpur, Nilphamari, Domar railway stations.

Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md Selim Reza, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Dhirendra Nath Majumder, Additional Director General (Infrastructure) of Bangladesh Railway Kamrul Ahsan, General Manager of Western Region Mihir Kanti Guha and other senior officials were present at this time among others.
