Renovation of Taka three crore 21 lakh railway bridge constructed during the British era in Ullapara under West zone railway has been completed three months ahead of the schedule.
According to sources of West Zone railway, Paksey division, 14 intercity and express trains, six goods trains and four local trains used to move over the bridge daily.
The trains include Dhaka-Kolkata Moitree express trains, Dhaka-Rajshahi, Dhaka-Ishwardi, Dhaka-Khulna, Dhaka-Panchgarh, Dhaka- Parbatipur intercity trains. The bridge 26 at Ullapara turned vulnerable due to non-repair of it for a long time.
The crack developed at the guarder of the bridge and rust weakened the iron sheets of the bridge making the movement of trains through over the bridge risky.
Abdur Rahim, Divisional Engineer-2 of Paksey divisional railway office informed, the train movement through the bridge during this Corona situation remained almost suspended which made the concerned contractors to finish the renovation work of the bridge ahead of the time schedule.
He said the time for completion of the work was scheduled in September. The pillars of the dilapidated, century-old bridge have been replaced by breaking those. Now, after the completion of the renovation works, trains over the bridge are moving safely.
