Rabindra fair begins in Khulna

 Profound love for humanity lies concealed behind all the literary creations of Rabindranath which deal with human emotions and crises, speakers said on Wednesday at a day-long function in observance of the 158th birth anniversary of Asia’s first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

The speakers at the event stressed that Tagore was a versatile genius in all forms of art ranging from literature, music, plays and painting. Describing Tagore as a global scholar, the speakers further said all the forms of Bengali literature have been enriched by Tagore’s writings.

 Khulna District Administration organised the Rabindra Mela at the great poet’s wife Mrinalini Debi’s ancestral village at Dakkhindihi under Phultala upazila of Khulna district on Wednesday with amid enthusiasm.                                                                         Lawmaker of Khulna-5 constituency Narayan Chandra Chando was present the inaugural ceremony as chief guest and formally opened the function at around 10:00am.

Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Lokman Hossain Miah,  Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Khulna Range Dr Khandokar Mahid Uddin, Treasurer of Khulna University Prof Sadhan Ranjan Ghosh, Chairman of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Chairman of Phultala Upazila Parishad Sheikh Akram Hossain were present the opening ceremony as special guests.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna and convener of Rabindra birth anniversary organizing committee-2019 Md Helal Hossain presided over the function. Associate Professor of Bengali Department of Govt. BL College, Khulna Shankar Kumar Mallik was present as focal discussant. Fultala UNO Begum Parveen Sultana delivered the addressed of welcome.

According to information, discussion meetings on life and work of the great poet, cultural events were held in the afternoon during the Rabindra Mela. They said nationally known and local scholars were addressed the seminars with an aim to augment the youths’ interest in literature, art and culture.

The fair also includes an exhibition of books written by Tagore, also books on Tagore written by other writers, paintings of Tagore and covers of the music records of Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore Song) unveiled in the exhibition. The day’s programme featured song renditions, poem recitations and dance recitals by local artistes.
