The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday said they are still looking for two culprits behind the 2012 killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the   RAB’s Legal and Media Wing said this at a press briefing in the capital Dhaka.

He further said DNA test reports from the US have revealed information about two people. We are working to identify them.

The press briefing was held after the probe report submission date in a case filed over the double murder was postponed for the 100th time on Monday.

Khandaker Al Moin said that evidences from 25 people wwere collected and sent to the US for DNA reports.

He also said, “We have got information about two people, but we are yet to identify them. In the report we did not find anything that would lead us to get any concrete information. The investigating officer is still not sure who was involved in the murder.”

RAB do not want to victimise anyone, and do not want controversy over the case, he added.

Khandaker Al Moin said, "The murder case is being investigated with utmost sincerity and importance. In very few homicides, evidence is sent to a US company for DNA test. In this case we have sent the evidence to a US company for DNA test.”

This RAB official said, "We have verified the report sent from the company in the United States and found two suspects who have not been identified yet. We think those two are possible criminals. Our investigating officers are working on this matter. After identifying these two, we will be able to tell how long it will take.”

When asked whether it is normal to postpone the investigation report 100 times, Khandaker Moin said, "It is not a matter of normal or abnormal here. Our main objective is to find out the real criminals through investigation. No one should be victimised here. There are many others who know nothing about the incident but have been in jail for a long time. We do not want to get involved in such debates. It takes more time to complete the investigation of such important cases.”
