RAB seizes adulterated spices

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 detained 10 people for making adulterated spices by mixing chemical dyes in Chaktai area under Bakolia police station of Chattogram city.

 They were arrested from Jashim's crossing mill in Chaktai area on Wednesday.

 Around 600 kg of turmeric, pepper and coriander powder mixed with toxic chemicals and 12 kg of adulterated spices with adulterated colours and chemicals were seized.

 Those arrested are: Md Jashim Uddin (mill owner) (40), Md Sharif Hossain (40), Md Alauddin (36), Md Jilani (20), Md Sujan (19), Md Saidul (20) , Abdul Quader (38), Md. Sajal (43), Md. Delwar Hossain (48) and Md: Kamrul Hasan (25).

 RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md. Nurul Absar confirmed the matter.

 He said that the detainees had been making adulterated spices by mixing various colours and chemicals with various spices including chili powder in an unsanitary and dirty environment for a long time.  Moreover, during the interrogation, the arrested businessmen also admitted that these adulterated spices were sold through wholesalers in different districts of Chattogram district.

 The arrested traders have been handed over to the respective police station for further legal action along with the recovered goods.
