A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized about 21 tonnes of juvenile hilsa from Soarighat wholesale market in the capital on Friday. Rab also detained nine persons from the spot for alleged involvement in the catching and selling of those juvenile hilsas. The drive was led by Rab’s executive magistrate Sarwar Alam.
Alam said a vested group of fish traders are not abstaining themselves from catching and selling juvenile hilsas despite various precautionary initiatives of the government. They now have resorted to a new policy of mixing the jatkas with grown up hilsas to dodge the law enforcers.
