Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said thatnecessary initiatives will be taken for reforming RAB after reviewing the US report on RAB.
The home minister made this remark while talking to the journalists at a program at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital Dhaka.
The minister further said that RAB is always reforming and modernizing everything.
“RAB is an elite force. We give them some special duties from time to time. They work according to the principles. No one can escape any wrong doing. We are monitoring everyone very closely,” he said.
The minister also said that Bangladesh is also checking whether the US report was mistaken or not.
Responding to a question about the position of the government in terms of reforms and accountability, Kamal said that many police and RAB members are in jail. If anyone commits any crime, they will not go unpunished. We are not exempting anyone.
Earlier on Saturday, the newly appointed Director General (DG) of RAB, M Khurshid Hossain said that RAB does not need reforms. “We do not operate outside the law. There are rules and regulations governing RAB. The elite force is run as per the rules,” the new RAB chief had told reporters.
Asked about US Ambassador Peter Haas’s advice on reforming RAB, Khurshid said the elite police unit did not do anything illegal and it had not received any proposals on reforms from the US.
On September 30, M Khurshid Hossain took charge as the new DG of RAB
