RAB nabs four smugglers in Kishoreganj

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 4 smugglers with Indian goods worth crores of Tk in Karimganj Upazila of Kishoreganj district. Major Shahriar Mahmud Khan, company commander of RAB-14 CPC-2 Kishoreganj camp, informed the matter in a press conference at 11 am on Friday. Earlier Thursday, in the evening near Balikhola Bazar Ghat of Karimganj Upazila, the members of two expeditionary teams of RAB-14 CPC-2 Kishoreganj camp recovered these Indian goods from Qutub Uddin's shop and arrested them.

The arrested persons are Masuk Miah, Qutub Uddin, Akhtar Hossain, Abu Siddique and Md Suruj Ali. Qutub Uddin is UP Member of Ward No. 4 of Sutarpara Union of Karimganj Upazila.

In the press conference, RAB-14 CPC-2 Kishoreganj camp company commander Major Shahriar Mahmud Khan said, Masuk Mia, Qutb Uddin, Akhtar Hussain and Abu Siddique are four members of a smuggling ring. The gang illegally imports various products including Indian sarees, lehengas, oil, facials and medicines from India through the Sunamganj border route and sends them to different parts of the country using the Kishoreganj sea route as a safe haven. Major Shahriar Mahmud Khan said that during the operation, 2968 pieces of Indian saree, 399 pieces of lehenga, a large amount of Dabur Amla hair oil, Himalaya Facewash and Boroline antiseptic cream worth Tk 1 crore five lakh 64 thousand 680 imported by evading customs tax were recovered and seized. 

At this time, four people involved in these smuggling were arrested. In this regard, a case is being filed under the Special Powers Act at the Karimganj police station.
