The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) nabbed at least 53 suspected criminals from different areas of the capital Dhaka in connection with mugging and extortions.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed it at a press briefing on Tuesday at Karwan Bazar area in the city.
Among them, 33 were extortionists while 20 were muggers. They were arrested during drives at Wari, Ramna, Hatirjheel, Khilgaon, Shahjahanpur, Paltan, Motijheel and Shahbagh. RAB personnel also seized some lethal weapons, mobile phone sets, cash taka and some receipts used during extortion from their possessions.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin said RAB team also detected some other mugging spots in Dhaka.
Various RAB battalions are working in those areas.
He said RAB wants to assure the city dwellers that we will do whatever it takes to make your Eid-ul-Fitr festive and uninterrupted.
