Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five alleged robbers from city’s Rampura area on Sunday night. They were identified as Md Gias Uddin Mahmood, son of Abdul Sobhan, hailing from Feni, Md Mosharaf Hossain Morshed, son of late Bachu Miah, hailing from Cumilla, Md Billal Hossain, son of Md Abu Miah, Md Ashar Ali, hailing from Rangpur district and Md Anwar Hossain from Barishal.
A private car with the sticker of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was seized from them. RAB suspected that they were using DMP stickers to dodge the law enforcers. The elite force RAB also seized four mobile phone sets, nine SIM cards, one money bag, a watch and Tk 420 from their possessions.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they were involved in hijacking in the capital and its adjacent areas for a long time. Process was on for filing a case in this regard. After filing the case, the arrestees will be handed over to the local police station.
