RAB nabs 5 ABT suspects

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in two separate drives arrested seven suspected members of banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from different parts of the country.

RAB-4 Commanding Officer Md Mozammel Haque said, five ABT militants were arrested at the city’s outskirts Ashulia and Dhamrai Friday night. They were identified as Oliul Islam Samrat alias Abdullah, Md Moazzem Hossain alias Shihad, Md Sobuj Hossain, Md Ariful Hoque and Rashida Humaira. 

During primary interrogation, they admitted their longtime involvement with the ABT, said the RAB-4 chief. “Oliul had been arrested earlier in 2019 for his militant links and after two-month imprisonment he came out of the jail on a bail”, said the RAB-4 boss and continued as saying that Oliul had been circulating various publications of extremism through different apps.

Md Mozammel Haque also said that another detained Shihad was involved with fund collection for militancy through online. Earlier in January and February, RAB- arrested several militants including Md Abu Raihan Limon, Saifullah Nayeem, Nabil Chowkider and Shafat Ahammad Chowdhury from Sylhet and Munsiganj. 

On the basis of information extracted from those milutants, another team of RAB arrested ABT members Sakib al Iftihan and Nazmus Shadat Fahim on Friday. Huge Jihadi publications were also seized from their possessions, said RAB officials.
