Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is conducting a raid on the house of e-commerce platform Evaly’s Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rassel in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Khandaker Al Moin said the raid began around 4 pm on Thursday but he did not disclose any more details.

The RAB action came hours after a customer sued Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin, chairman of the e-commerce company, for embezzling money through fraud.

The customer, Arif Baker, filed the case with the Gulshan police in the early hours of Thursday.

Gulshan Police Inspector Aminul Islam said they are investigating the fraud allegation.

In the case statement, Arif claims that he and his friends made orders worth Tk 310,000 on the e-commerce site in May and June and paid for them in advance, but they did not receive the goods yet.

He claimed that he contacted the Evaly offices and its CEO to talk on the matter on September 9 when the CEO threatened him.

The plaintiff claims financial damage and mental stress due to the incident.

According to government’s version, Evaly collected several hundreds of crores of taka from its customers under different campaigns to sell products at discounted prices, but many orders have not been delivered.
