In separate operations in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, large quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered by RAB and BGB on Tuesday. One identified member of a kidnapping gang was also arrested.
RAB detained Mohammad Rubel (27), an associate of notorious criminal Shafi dacoit, during a three-hour raid in West Leda, Hnila Union. Acting on intelligence, RAB-15 launched the operation, prompting Shafi and his gang to flee after firing shots. Rubel was captured with a loaded firearm. Based on his confession, additional weapons were recovered, including one shotgun, three local guns, 12 live rounds, 42 empty cartridges, and two smartphones.
RAB Commander Lt. Col. Kamrul Hasan confirmed 11 of Shafi’s accomplices have been identified and face charges ranging from murder and abduction to extortion. Shafi alone is named in 17 cases.
Separately, BGB’s 64th Battalion uncovered more arms from a remote hill in Rangikhali, Hnila, though no arrests were made. Recovered items included foreign revolvers, long-barrel guns, LGs, ammunition, and machetes.
Commander Lt. Col. Md Jasim Uddin stated the area is a hideout for drug traffickers and criminals. BGB’s operations will continue, and recovered items have been handed over to Teknaf Police.
