RAB, Arsa men trade gunfire at Rohingya camp

4 terrorists held, arms recovered

Members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a terrorist group of Rakhine State of Myanmar, exchanged gunfire with the RAB at the Ukhia Jamtali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday. 

RAB arrested 4 terrorists including a commander after the overnight operation. During a raid at ARSA hideout, four firearms including a foreign-made pistol, large quantity of cartridges and explosives were recovered.

RAB launched this operation after getting news that the ARSA terrorists were planning to organize a large gathering and sabotage in the Rohingya camp on the occasion that the law enforcement forces will remain busy with the national elections of Bangladesh slatated for January 7.RAB captain Lt Col HM Sajjad Hossain said RAB carried out this operation at midnight on Monday.

In a press briefing organized at the office of RAB-15 at 11:30 on Tuesday morning, Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad said that based on secret information, several teams of RAB-15 went into operation on Monday night in Jamtoli Rohingya camp of Ukhia Upazila. 

Meanwhile, RAB team surrounded a hideout of Arsa terrorists. Sensing the presence of the RAB, the terrorists fired at the RAB members. A shootout between the two sides ensued when the RAB members fired blanks in return. At one point, while the terrorists were escaping, Arsa arrested 4 terrorists including a commander. 

Later, the RAB personnel searched ARSA'S hideout and recovered a foreign pistol, 4 locally made firearms, a large quantity of cartridges and shell casings.

The arrested ARSA commander has been identified as Mo Yunus Prakash Master Yunus. RAB official said he is the head of ARSA'S accounts department. This RAB official said that they had gathered in that hideout as part of a plan to create unrest and sabotage in the camp ahead of the national elections.
