The anti-crime elite forceRapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a warranted war crimes suspect after eight years of being a fugitive from city's suburb Ashulia on Sunday.
RAB headquarters at a press release on Monday disclosed it.
The arrestee was identified as MdAzhar Ali Shikdar, 68. He is the son of late Hazi Ahmed Ali Shikdar hailing from Kachua Upazila under Bagherhat district.
According to RAB,during the Liberation War in 1971, Azhar Ali Shikder and his associates committed crimes against humanity such as murder, genocide, rape, illegal detention, torture, kidnapping, looting and arson in Kachua and Morelganj areas of Bagerhat district.
The International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the war criminal on July 16 in 2016
Getting secrete information, team of RAB-2 conducted raided in Ashulia area on Sunday and arrested him. During the primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted his involvement in the crimes.
