Former Union Parishad (UP) Member of Rajapalong union in Ukhiya Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, Salah Uddin, was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Monday after being in hiding for a long time.
The matter was confirmed on the verified Whatsapp group of RAB 15 on Monday evening. RAB said the cashier of drug (Yaba) lord Abdur Rahman Badi, Salah Uddin, was arrested from Sylhet Osmani International Airport when he was trying to escape from the country.
Detainee Salah Uddin, former Member of Rajapalong Union Parishad, is the son of driver Jafar Alam. He himself was a driver at one point. Later, he became the UP Member of Rajapalong Union. He was the right hand of Upazila Awami League president Jahagir Kabir and conducted all criminal activities on behalf of Jahangir Kabir. Due to that, he was made the acting UP Chairman later. There several cases against him.
The locals said Salah Uddin was a trusted and close person of much discussed and controversial former MP Abdur Rahman Badi. Member Salah Uddin used to work as a cashier for the drug trade of MP Badi on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. As a result, he accumulated millions of illegal money overnight.
When the Sheikh Hasina government fell on August 5 in the face of anti-discrimination student movement, Salah Uddin went into hiding.
The law enforcement forces have conducted multiple drives at various possible locations to arrest him.
After being on the run for a long time, he was arrested by RAB on the eve of fleeing to Saudi Arabia by plane disguised as a Haji.
