Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) has arrested three cybercriminals who stole crores of Tk from Patnitala in Naogaon. RAB informed this operation about the arrest in a circular on Friday morning. Earlier on Thursday evening, they were arrested by conducting a raid in South Harirampur village of Najipur municipality.
The arrested are Ata Rabbi of Babnabaz village of the upazila, Rasel Hossain of Gasaipur village and Mithun Karmakar of Khanpur village of Aminpur police station in Pabna.
According to the press release, the arrested persons were making illegal financial transactions online through digital devices using various dating websites including Tinder. They used to illegally buy dollars from foreigners and convert them into Tk as well as send them to foreigners keeping a commission.
In this way, they are illegally stealing crores of Tk by evading taxes from the Bangladesh government by illegally buying and selling dollars with other professional cryptocurrency dealers. Based on secret information, RAB-5 Jaipurhat Camp Company Captain Major Mustafa Zaman, Artillery and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Masud Rana led an operation in No. 6 South Harirampur Village of Najipur Municipality of Patoeitala Police Station and arrested them.
At that time, 14 smartphones, 5 SIMs, 2 laptops, 5 mice, 5 keyboards, 15 cables, 1 bank check, 1 stamp, cash of Tk 580 and 1 power bank were seized from them.
A case has been filed against them under Section 30/35 of Digital Security Act 2018 at Pateetala Police Station.
