Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has arrested Shahidul Islam Buishya, a listed terrorist of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), from the city early Sunday.

Buishya, 35, son of Mohammad Ali of Bhandari Bari under Daulatkhan Police Station in Bhola district, was arrested at around 1:00am in front of Gate No. 2 of Finlay Square Market. At the time of arrest, RAB recovered a pistol along with nine rounds of ammunition from his possession.

According to RAB sources, Buishya had been living in Badiul Alam Goli in the West Sholashahar area under Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram city.

Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, ARM Mozaffar Hossain, confirmed the arrest.

RAB-7 Acting Commander Squadron Leader Md Mizanur Rahman disclosed the details at a press briefing held at the RAB Media Centre at Chandgaon Camp on Sunday morning.

He said Shahidul Islam Buishya has multiple cases filed against him under the Arms Act, Narcotics Control Act, as well as for extortion and robbery. Legal proceedings are currently underway.

According to RAB, Buishya allegedly ran an organised criminal network in the Panchlaish and Chandgaon areas. He is accused of kidnapping and torturing individuals who resisted extortion demands, using a hideout at Diganta Khaja Tower in the Bahaddarhat Kacha Bazar area.

RAB also mentioned recent armed clashes between two rival criminal groups—known as the ‘Tempo’ and ‘Buishya’ groups—operating in the city. Ismail Hossain alias Prakash Tempo and Shahidul Islam alias Prakash Buishya are reportedly the leaders of the respective groups and operate under political patronage.

Officials said Buishya faces at least 19 cases under the Arms and Narcotics Acts at Panchlaish and Chandgaon police stations. He is also accused of extortion, land grabbing and robbery.

Buishya was previously arrested in 2022 and served a lengthy prison term. After being released on bail, he allegedly resumed criminal activities. Law enforcement agencies have arrested several members of his gang in multiple operations in recent years.
