The government is committed to ensuring quick justice in the brutal murder that occurred near Mitford Hospital, said Law Adviser Asif Nazrul  in a  Facebook post on Saturday.

Asif Nazrul said five people have already been arrested in connection with the incident which he described as “barbaric.”

Police have launched an investigation with the highest priority, said the adviser, assuring that the government will take steps to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing through speedy trial.

“The case will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal, and the trial will begin under Section10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002,” he writes.

Mohammed Sohag, 39, a scrap trader, was hacked and beaten to death in broad daylight at the hospital gate on Wednesday (July 9).

Shohag’s family later filed a case, naming several accused, including  two Jubo Dal leaders.

Police arrested four accused including Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, and Tarek Rahman Robin, 22 in this connection.

Later, a Dhaka court on Saturday placed them on a 5-day remand in connection with the murder.
