Quader visits ailing actor Shamsuzzaman at BSMMU

Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader visited ailing actor ATM Shamsuzzaman at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Tuesday morning, reports BSS. 

Quader went to the room number 212 of the cabin block of BSMMU, stayed beside the bed of the actor for sometimes and inquired about his treatment.

BSMMU vice chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, Pro-VC (admin) Prof Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Alam and treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Atiqur Rahman were present.

Shamsuzzaman was admitted to Asgar Ali Hospital in old Dhaka on April 26 as he was suffering from indigestion and underwent a gallbladder surgery there. Late, he was shifted to BSMMU on June 15.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provided financial assistance of Tk 10 lakh to veteran actor ATM Shamsuzzaman for his treatment.

The Prime Minister also took full responsibility for medical treatment of eminent actor who started his movie career in 1961, as the Assistant Director in “Bishkonnya.”

He first gained popularity as an actor through Amzad Hossain’s “Noyonmoni” (1976).

Born on September 10, 1941 in Noakhali, the actor was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015.

He won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in “Dayee Ke?” (1987), “Madam Fuli” (1999), “Churiwala” (2001), “Mon Bosena Porar Table E” (2009) and “Chorabali” (2012).
