Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she was lauded by US magazine Forbes for her effective steps to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, reports BSS.
The prestigious US magazine Forbes has highly praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and placed her in the list of successful women leadership for her sincere efforts to contain coronavirus in Bangladesh. On behalf of Awami League, Quader congratulated the Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina, an AL press release said.
He said the entire world is now in a deep crisis due to coronavirus while many developed countries have been struggling to bring the coronavirus situation under control. Bangladesh also continues its efforts to tackle the deadly and invisible virus, he added. Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the present government is implementing various programmes to protect the people from the lethal virus and ensure their health safety under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“She (the premier) did not make any mistake in taking early steps to tackle coronavirus. Her immediate decision helps contain the larger spread of coronavirus in the country,” he said. The AL general secretary said the initiatives taken by Sheikh Hasina to fight COVID-19 were praised at international forums – the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum.
Immediate after the COVID-19 case was first detected in China, scanning machines were installed at the country’s international airports and over 6.5 lakh passengers were scanned, he said, adding that around 37,000 people were sent to quarantines. Since March last, Quader said, all educational institutions remained closed and holiday was announced to ensure social distancing among people.
Highlighting various other initiatives of the government to fight COVID-19, he said the prime minister’s initiatives were lauded internationally, which will inspire the country’s people and bring pace in fighting coronavirus unitedly. “Inshallah, we will be able to prevent coronavirus under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” the AL general secretary said.
