A programme commemorating the life and works of late artist Qayyum Chowdhury was held at National Art Gallery auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
The academy and Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Foundation jointly organised the event marking the fifth death anniversary of the artist, who passed away on November 30, 2014.
The programme commenced with a discussion where eminent art critic professor Abul Monsur attended as the chief discussant. Besides, secretary of the academy Badrul Anam Bhuiyan, national professor Anisuzzaman and others spoke at the session.
The discussion was followed by a cultural show titled ‘Jiboney Amar Joto Ananda’. Singers Bulbul Islam, Tania Mannan, Jannat E Ferdousi Lucky, Satyajit Ghosh, Purabi Barua, Mrittika Shohita, Tinku Shil, Zahid Kiron and others entertained the audience rendering songs at the event.
Qayyum Chowdhury, born on March 9, 1932 in Feni, spent his boyhood in various towns including Chattogram, Cumilla, Narail, Sanwdeep, Noakhali, Feni, Faridpur and Mymensingh.
Qayyum Chowdhury took part in the liberation war and all democratic, progressive and pro-liberation movements. He received Ekushey Padak, Independence Award, Sufia Kamal Award, Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Padak and several other awards for his contribution to arts and culture.
