During this time of worldwide crisis, private hospitals and clinics are refusing to do their part to treat coronavirus patients. Earlier, the government has called on the private health sector to help deal with coronavirus crisis.

Leaders of private clinics and hospitals at a press conference claimed that they would provide necessary cooperation to the government in fighting the corona virus. However, so far these seem to be empty promises.

Many private clinics and hospitals remain open but they are doing the bare minimum during this public health crisis. Many doctors and nurses refuse to do their duties and as a result patients are suffering and being denied treatment.

The government must hold these

hospitals accountable for shirking

from their duties

The patients are being denied treatment on the basis of not having coronavirus clearance certificate. But in the current scenario, coronavirus tests are only limited to those who have several symptoms of COVID-19. People with serious and chronic medical conditions are being denied their right to healthcare using this excuse by the private hospitals and clinics.

Nearly one month ago, government declared that three private hospitals will provide treatment for the corona patients. However, none of them have started treatment for the corona patients yet. Three more private hospitals were added to that list but they have all come up with excuses in order to avoid carrying out their duties.

The hospitals in question claim that in the current realities of the hospitals, it is quite impossible to provide treatment for the corona patients. They also claimed they failed to prepare separate buildings for corona patients due to the protests from the local people.

The government must hold these hospitals accountable for shirking from their duties. The nation needs help from the private sector and if they refuse to do their part the authorities concerned must penalize them.
