Purchase committee okays 8 proposals

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved eight proposals worth Tk 1,142.69 crore.

The approval came from the 4th CCGP meeting in the current year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

At a briefing virtually after the meeting, Kamal informed reporters that out of the eight procurement proposals, two were for conducting public works under the project for ensuring performance-based operation and strengthening of four-lane Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

“These eight procurement proposals involve a total estimated cost of around Tk 1,142.69 crore. Out of that amount, around Tk 1,110 crore will come from the government while the remaining around Tk 31.92 crore as loan from the World Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” he added.

Meanwhile, prior to the CCGP meeting, the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters virtually, the Finance Minister said the meeting approved in principle the revised Gold Policy-2018 under which a provision has been kept for allowing necessary equipment for refining gold.

He said in many countries, unrefined gold is being imported and then refined.

Kamal also noted that it would be a good thing for the country.

Joining the briefing virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said that under the proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division, Taher Brothers will conduct the public works of Chattogram portion under the package No WP-01 of the project for four-year performance based operation and strengthening of four-Lane Dhaka-Chattogram highway (N-1, Daudkandi-Chattogram) portion with around Tk 290.27 crore.

The CCGP meeting approved another proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division for conducting the public works of Cumilla portion under the package No WP-01 of the project for four-year performance based operation and strengthening of four-Lane Dhaka-Chattogram highway (N-1, Daudkandi-Chattogram) portion. The joint venture of Abdul Monem Ltd and Spectra Engineers Ltd will conduct the work at a cost of around Tk 556.54 crore.

The meeting nodded to another proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division under which the joint venture of MM Builders and Engineers Ltd, M/S Janmabhumi Nirman, and Ohiduzzaman Chowdhury (MNO) will conduct the public works under package No WD-02 for the project titled construction of Shalla-Jalshukha portion of Namganj-Madanpur-Dirai-Shalla-Jalshukha-Ajmiriganj-Habiganj Highway with around Tk 151.23 crore.

Besides, the day’s CCGP meeting approved yet another proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division under which the variation proposal of additional around Tk 18.88 crore was approved against the joint venture consultants of Oriental Consultants Global Co Ltd. Japan, Oriental Consultants Co Ltd. Japan, PADECO Co Ltd. Japan in association with SMEC, JBSI, ACE, DDC and BCL under the project for cross-border road network improvement.

In another proposal from the Power Division, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) will procure some 23,650 SPC Poles from

Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF) with around Tk 32.38 crore under the project for expansion of transmission network (Rajshahi, Rangpur,

Khulna and Barishal Divisions), first revised, for ensuring cent percent rural electrification.

Under the first of two separate proposals from the Housing and Public Works Ministry, the joint venture of The Civil Engineers Ltd, The Orbital Bangladesh will construct a 20-storey residential building for Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the city’s Demra area with around Tk 80.35 crore.

Besides, the meeting approved a variation proposal of additional around Tk 13.04 crore against IMC Worldwide, UK for the consultancy services under the project for ensuring improved livelihood system for low income people in urban areas (first revised).
