Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Thursday gave pre-qualification license to private-run Purbagaon Economic Zone (EZ) located at Kayet Para Union under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.
BEZA issued the pre-qualification license to establish the Purbagaon EZ at a function at BEZA headquarters in the city, said a press release.
City Group, a leading business house of the country, is developing the Purbagaon EZ.
BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun presided over the function while City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman was the special guest.
The zone is being established on 94 acres of land on the bank of river Shitalakshya and adjacent to Dhaka-Sylhet highway. There is a plan to expand the EZ to 150 acres in future.
This EZ is very convenient in terms of communication. It is 25 kilometer away from capital Dhaka and 180 kilometer distant from Chattogram sea port by road. Taka 10 thousand crore will be invested initially.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Yusuf Harun said investors from home and aboard are giving significant response in developing economic zones in the country.
He expressed his hope that the EZ will become an effective one to encourage rapid economic development through increase and diversification of industry, employment, production and export.
