Actual accused arrested in Chattogram

Chattogram Kotwali police have finally arrested Kulsum Akhter, the original convict in a murder case, in which Minu Akter, a widow was jailed for three years in Chattogram.

She was arrested from the Patenga police station area of the city in the early hours of Thursday. Kotwali Police confirmed the arrest to Bangladesh Post.  

Contacted, OC Mohammad Nezam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) said,   “Kulsum Akhter Kulsumi, accused in the murder case of a garment worker, while Minu Akter was jailed for three years. She promised to look after Minu’s children.” 

“Minu was released from jail on 16 June after legal proceedings. But She was killed in an accident on the Bayezid link road on the night of 26 June in this year after her release”-OC added.  

According to the police sources, Kohinoor Akhter, a garment worker, was strangled to death in July 2006 at a house in Rahmatganj in Chattogram. Garment worker Kulsum claimed that Kohinoor had committed suicide. Then an unnatural death case was filed at the police station.

The case was turned into a murder case after the police reported a two-year investigation. They confirmed that Kohinoor had been killed. But Kulsum was released on bail after serving one year and three months in jail.  

Minu went to jail on 12 June 2018 instead of Kulsum Akhter Kulsumi on the basis of the sentence warrant. 

While Chittagong Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Shafiqul Islam Khan inspecting the women's ward on 18 March, Minu was not an accused in any case-he said.
