The bus route rationalization program, which will be launched on December 26, will gradually restore order in the entire public transport scenario of the capital.

Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh made the comment after the inauguration of the pedestrian crossing bridge at Shankar in the city as a part of the weekly regular inspection activities on Wednesday.

He said, “You know that our bus route rationalization is going on. Our Minister for Road Transport and Bridges will inaugurate it on December 26. In this context, we are inspecting the passenger tents, infrastructure development and bus-bay that are being constructed.”

He added that it can be expected that the launch of this route from December 26 will establish a discipline and update the public transport scenario in Dhaka city.

Expressing his determination to benefit the people of Dhaka by completing bus route rationalization activities by next year, the mayor said, "I hope if it is fully implemented by 2022, the people of Dhaka will get the proper benefits.”

Regarding the pedestrian bridge at Shankar, he said that the construction work had been kept pending for a long time and was in a state of disrepair. Finally, the construction of that long awaited bridge is completed and the locals seem very happy.

“I would request the people of Dhaka to use all the infrastructures we are constructing, including pedestrian bridges, at road crossings. We have already taken initiative to modernize and automate the traffic management with all our intersections,” said the mayor.

Zebra crossings are being redesigned so that pedestrians do not use the road anymore. Doing so leads to possibilities of accidents. Everyone should use the crossings properly.

The mayor then inspected the newly constructed passenger cantonment at Jigatala and inaugurated the Interim Waste Transfer Center in East Hajinagar area adjacent to Sarulia Bazar in Ward No 68 of the city.

Farid Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Air Commodore Sitwat Naeem, Chief Waste Management Officer, Saleh Ahmed, Chief Engineer, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir, Chief Property Officer, Rasel Sabrin, Chief Revenue Officer, Ariful Haque along with the Regional Executive Officers of the respective areas, councillors of general constituencies and women councillors of reserved constituencies were present on the occasion.
