Online education is the talk of the town for people connected with education. Whether it is the students and their parents or the teachers, all have shared concerns over the plausibility of online education disbursement. However, one crucial point that keeps coming up is the proper process of assessing students through online means and its credibility.
As per a report published in this daily, students of private universities have been allowed to sit for online examinations, public universities have not decided on it as yet, throwing thousands of students into uncertainty. If this is the scenario then it does not bode well for the education system and also the students of public institutions who are slowly falling behind in comparison with their private university counterparts.
In this continuous form of closure for education
institutions, this disparity is also working negatively
on the mental health of the public university students
Although the UGC has provided a guideline for both private and public universities, the public institutions are yet to follow up on proceeding with the guidelines even though the private universities have already followed up and have nearly finished two semesters since Covid-19 outbreak. This does not augur well as we expect better output from the public universities when compared with the private ones. Ironically, here, the public institutions seem to be the ones that are falling behind.
This type of scenario does not create solidarity amongst the students of the two types of varsities rather a disparity is taking place between the two types of students. In this continuous form of closure for education institutions, this disparity is also working negatively on the mental health of the public university students.
Above all, since all sense of normalcy has been restored to all sectors of the country, it is high time education institutions also open up following proper health regulations.
