All the primary schools in the country are set to re-open on June 13 if the Coronavirus pandemic situation is considered safe.

As soon as the school opens, the government will give Tk 1000 to each student as ‘Kit Allowance’ announced by the Prime Minister to buy clothes and shoes as gifts for the students.

However, even if it is not possible to open an educational institution by the time, the students will still get the money by the end of this month. This information has been known from the sources of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and the stipend project.

The stipend is already being distributed for six months from July 2020 to December. Once it’s completed, the distribution of Tk 1000 for the purchase of clothes and shoes will begin after June 10, said the concerned officials.

However, if the school reopens on June 13, they will provide the money as a gift to the students since they’ll come to school after a long period of closure. The money will still be distributed if it’s not possible to reopen by June 13.

In this regard, Yusuf Ali, the director of the project to provide stipends for primary education (Additional Secretary) said, "Now the stipend for the last six months of 2020 is being distributed. As soon as it is over, one-time distribution of Tk 1000 will start for buying clothes and shoes. However, if the school opens on June 13, the money will be given as a gift to the students to come to school after a long time. ”

According to project sources, the number of students eligible for ‘Kit Allowance’ in primary schools across the country is over 11 million. About Tk 1,100 crore has been allocated for the kits allowance of these students. Besides, arrears of two installments of stipend are being paid.
