Protest in Lakshmipur over opposition to Bangabandhu sculpture

The Laxmipur district unit of Juba League, youth front of Awami League staged demonstration protesting the opposition to installing the sculptures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the Islamicists groups.

Leaders and activists of Juba League, led by the district unit President and Sadar Upazila Chairman AKM Salahuddin Tipu, brought out a procession from Tamizuddin Eidgah ground on Tuesday and ended at the North Trimuhani Bangabandhu Chattar.

The procession was followed by a protest rally.

Speakers at the rally criticized the Islamicists groups for opposing the installment of Bangabandhu sculpture saying fundamentalist will find no space in the country.

District Juba League General Secretary Abdullah Al Noman, Juba League leaders Mahbubur Rahman, Abdul Jabbar Lavlu, Yunus Hawladar Rupam, among others, were present.

On November 13, top leaders of the Islamic Andolon Bangladesh spoke out against the installation of a sculpture of Bangabandhu from a rally of Touhidi Janata Oikya Parishad at Dhupkhola ground in the capital.
