Aggrieved shop owners staged a sit-in on Sunday morning to protest the eviction of 200 shops in place of the 20 shops occupied for road repairs from Gopalganj through Baniyarchar village in Jalirpar union of Mukusudpur upazila of Gopalganj.

Human rights activists allege that 200 shops were being evicted from areas outside the design of road repairs in order to protect only 20 shops in the local Josna Market. They allege that the evictions were being carried out "illegally".  The participants in the human chain demanded that the illegal eviction of 200 shops should be stopped immediately and 20 new shops should be demolished and new roads should be constructed according to the actual design of the road. The participants in the human chain also said that Josna, the owner of Josna Market, was involved in illegally evicting 200 shops instead of mapping the entire street to save only 20 shops.

The participants in the human chain demanded that Josna be tried and that the illegal evictions be stopped immediately.  Binay Mallick, General Secretary of Jalirpar Market Committee, Bidhan Mallick, Shop Owner, Nani Goldar, Nirod Rkittaniya, Kapil Haldar, Ashok Baruri, Babu Biswas, Debashish Barai, Dipankar Mahanta, Mintu Rkmita spoke on the occasion.  The victims of the human chain sought the full cooperation of the MP of Gopalganj-1 constituency Muhammad Farooq Khan MP in this matter and also sought the intervention of the Prime Minister.
