Sarjis Alam, a prominent coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, has called on all Bangladeshis to take collective responsibility for safeguarding the nation’s resources and its people.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Alam emphasised that protecting the country’s wealth and ensuring the safety of its citizens is a duty shared by everyone.

“This freedom belongs to the people of Bangladesh,” Alam asserted. “From this moment on, we all have a responsibility to protect our nation’s resources and our fellow citizens. These are our lives and our Bangladesh.”

Alam’s call for unity and vigilance comes amid ongoing national unrest. Earlier on Monday, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman addressed the nation, highlighting the political transition period and the upcoming formation of an interim government. He assured the public that all acts of violence would be addressed and urged citizens to cooperate with the army in maintaining peace and order.

General Waker-uz-Zaman stressed the importance of avoiding conflict and working together to build a better country. “Trust the army,” he said. “We are working with political leaders to ensure stability. Let’s join forces to create a harmonious and prosperous nation.”
