While addressing the second meeting of the national steering committee on expatriates' welfare and overseas employment at her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital Dhaka, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for ensuring that overseas job-seekers must not fall prey to the frauds and middlemen. The premier also laid emphasis on exploring overseas employment opportunities in new countries and sending skilled workforce there.

Apart from the government, other stakeholders will also have to build awareness so that people do not fall into cheating while going abroad. The government has set up digital centres across the country and the overseas job-seekers can register themselves to the expatriates’ welfare ministry by visiting the centres.

No one should go abroad illegally by selling off everything. Many people are selling off their houses and lands to step into the uncertain path of going abroad. They even do not know where their job is and what awaits them.

The authorities concerned

will have to find new

destinations for sending

 skilled manpower

The government has introduced a registration system in all digital centres across the country for overseas jobseekers and their lists will be preserved at the expatriate welfare ministry. Anyone can go abroad after checking the nature of job, salary and other necessary information regarding the job.

The government is providing training to overseas jobseekers so that they could get better jobs. The government has already started sending workers to a few new countries. As the government wants to send skilled workforce it has arranged multipurpose training facilities for workers.

If overseas job-seekers go abroad with appropriate training, they would not fall into danger. We hope the overseas job-seekers will go abroad following the legal ways. Simultaneously, the authorities concerned will have to find new destinations for sending manpower alongside making them skilled through giving appropriate training..

Apart from this, our expatriate Bangladeshis will also have to strictly abide by the laws of the countries they work for. The government has taken Bangladesh in a dignified position through round the clock hard work over the years and the image is being hampered due to criminal acts abroad by some people.
