The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved five proposals, including one for the printing, binding and supplying of 68,30,971 copies of textbook through 6 bidders.
The approval came from the CCGP meeting held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, the finance minister said the cabinet committee approved a procurement proposal of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Division for the printing, binding and supplying of 68,30,971 copies of text books for Ibtedai (1st and 2nd class), Secondary (Bangla and English versions), Dakhil (6th and 8th class) and Technical (Trade) education through 6 bidders with a cost of around Tk 60 crore.
Besides, the government has approved a proposal in principle to procure some 40,000 solar home system having capacity of 100 watt peak each and some 2,500 solar community system having capacity of 320 watt peak each from an experienced firm under Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for the three districts of Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT).
This proposal has been given approval as part of the pledge given earlier by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to provide electricity coverage to all, he added.
"If these solar home systems are set up there, then it will be possible to ensure power coverage even in the remote areas of CHT and it's our belief," he added.
Kamal said the CCEA meeting also decided to cancel the implementation of Matarbari-Banshkhali-Madunaghat 400kv Transmission Line project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) method. The project will not be implemented under PPP method as there is no such need for this right at the moment, he added.
In addition, approval has been given for the purchase of 196 units of curtains and installation work on a 20-storey building of 1250 sq ft and another 16-storey building in the Green City residential complex of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project. It will cost of Tk 4.67 crore.
Besides, a proposal from Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) has been approved to import 30,000 metric tons of prelude urea fertilizer from Qatar in the second lot at a cost of Tk 116.65 crore.
On the other hand, approval was also given in meeting to purchase 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk 117.44 crore.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will buy 395,000 tabs and 72 ACs for digital census under the project titled “Census and Census-2021”. It was proposed to purchase from Fair Electronics Limited at a cost of Tk 548.73 crore. However, the proposal was not approved. It was decided by the retender after finding some errors in the tender.
