When our government is trying to reshape and promote the tourism industry for the socio-economic enhancement of the country, a group of ill-motivated people are spreading propagandas to put a halt to this initiative by the government.

Reportedly, a vested quarter has stood against the ongoing construction of a five-star hotel -- Marriott Hotel and Amusement Park -- at Chandra Pahar, previously known as the Naitong hung (hill) of Bandarban’s Chimbuk area.

Now this kind of move to harm the development of the tourism sector is not acceptable at all. The local tribal communities are in favour of the tourism site as it will significantly develop their socio-economic condition.

Such development projects will

make the indigenous and local

people financially viable

Not only that, building a five-star hotel in that area will create new employment opportunities and will completely change the fate of the tribal people.

Agricultural products that they produce there will get a new market from the visiting tourists. They will also be able to earn adequate money through fruit shops, restaurant business, and various handicrafts they make there.

Bandarban is one of the most scenic tourist locales of the country. But local and international tourists often face various troubles due to the lack of international standard hotels and resorts in the district. Therefore, such development projects will not drive away the indigenous people from their lands, which the vested quarters are fearing, rather it will make them financially viable. The government should also monitor that these indigenous people will reap the benefit from the envisaged project.
