Prompt initiative recommended for MPO enrollment of PWD schools

The parliamentary committee has recommended the ministry concerned to take immediate steps for Monthly Pay Order (MPO) registration of private schools for the Persons with Disabilities (PWD).

The recommendation was made at the 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Eleventh Jatiya Sangsad held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday. Committee Chairman Rashed Khan Menon presided over the meeting while committee members Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, AKM Sarwar Jahan, Arma Dutt and Shabnam Jahan were present at the meeting.

The meeting discussed the progress made in the implementation of the decision taken at the 12th meeting and the program taken to stop child marriage under the Child Sensitive Social Protection in Bangladesh (CSPB) project of the Directorate of Social Services.

In addition, the progress on private PWD school MPOs and the problems of special education teacher training colleges were discussed in detail with the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare. It was informed at the meeting that in the light of the Integrated Special Education Policy on Disability-2019, applications have been collected by calling for online notification for setting up a school for the PWD in every upazila of the country.

As the need and usefulness of CSPB project is realistic, it is recommended to send a letter to UNICEF requesting funding after 2024.

The committee recommended the ministry to take necessary steps for recruitment of teachers in special education training colleges.
