Projects worth Tk 8,784cr okayed

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved a total of nine proposals involving Tk 8,784.28 crore.

The approval came from a meeting of the CCGP held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Dr Sahida Akter, Additional Cabinet Division Secretary, said that the nine proposals were approved by the Purchase Committee on Wednesday.

Among the approved proposals, Purchase's proposals included one from the Department of Road Transport and Highways, two from the Ministry of Food, two from the Ministry of Shipping, one from the Department of Power, one from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, one from the Department of Public Safety and one from the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Department.

Out of the total financing of the proposals, Tk 2,518 crore will be spent from the government exchequer and Taka 5,266 crore will be borrowed from the World Bank and domestic banks.

Petrobangla under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources has approved the import of 33.70 lakh MMBTU LNG from AOT Trading AG, Switzerland at a total cost of Tk 340.62 crore.

SEPCO-III Electric Power Construction Company has set up a 400 MW power plant at Raozan in Chittagong district by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) under the power department Ltd of China has been approved for purchase at a cost of Tk 1,796.72 crore.

Joint Venture of (1) Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd, Dhaka and Dhaka (2) Digicon Technologies Ltd, Dhaka has been approved to purchase Tk  129.22 crore.

Joint Venture of (1) Dohatec New Media, Bangladesh, (2) dot GOV Solutions LLC, (3) USA and (4) IT Division as a consulting firm on “Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement” project by Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited (Beximco), Bangladesh have been approved for recruitment at a cost of Tk 44.28 crore.

Meanwhile, Sahida said that the day’s meeting also approved a proposal in principle from the Health Services Division to procure some 40 oxygen generators under DPM method for the CMSD for the use of COVID-19 infected patients.

Besides, the meeting approved another proposal in principle from the Ministry of Industries for signing agreements for procuring some 12.80 lakh metric tons of urea fertilizer by the BCIC to maintain the necessary supply of urea fertilizer throughout the next fiscal year (FY22) under different state-level agreements.

Out of the 12.80 lakh metric tons of fertilizer, some 5 lakh metric tons will be procured from Muntajat, Qatar, some 5 lakh metric tons will be procured from Saudi Arabia, and some 2.80 lakh metric tons from UAE.
