It is heartening to note that the government has integrated a project for employment of youths and alleviation of poverty.

Reportedly, the project worth Tk 209 crore is being taken up to alleviate poverty and ensure sustainable economic growth.

Attaining extraordinary success in various socio-economic indicators in the last decade under the pragmatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh has now become a developing country.   Bangladesh has achieved remarkable economic growth over the last 10 years, but still, unemployment is recognised as one of the major problems hindering the country's overall development.

According to media reports, currently the number of youths, who are not involved in employment, education and training, is more than 1 million. Hitherto employment opportunities are not available comparing the number of labour forces entering the job market every year. In Bangladesh, hundreds of thousands of students pass out of colleges and universities with higher degrees every year but many of them remain unemployed. Considering the situation, youths should be encouraged to choose entrepreneurship over jobs.

It is necessary to adopt measures

that will help people become

self-employed to achieve a dignified life

It is necessary to adopt measures that will help people become self-employed to achieve a dignified life. It needs no emphasising that by creating entrepreneurs we can reduce the pressure on the country’s job markets and reinforce the country’s economic growth.

Therefore, the government should encourage youths to choose entrepreneurship over jobs by offering them easy loans. It is time to promote a culture of entrepreneurship among our students. There is no denying that entrepreneurship does not constitute such a social security as employment in large companies does, but it can reduce the country’s growing burden of unemployment and contribute to economic growth.

Entrepreneurship is inevitable for a country’s economic development and in order to encourage entrepreneurship, necessary steps should be taken to disseminate proper and need based education throughout the country.
